Volunteer Program

Volunteers are very important to CEID and we depend on them greatly. We pride ourselves in providing a variety of volunteer opportunities, ranging from classroom aids to facility work around our campus. As an organization serving children, CEID must carefully screen volunteers. If you have a professional skill or particular expertise that may be helpful, contact our Administrative Assistant, Sharouk Aledlah, for more information about volunteering.

Internship Program

The CEID Internship Program offers young people the opportunity to experience the basics of nonprofit work in the human services field. It serves as an introduction to a career sector in which an array of talents, educational backgrounds, and experience apply. The primary purpose of the Internship Program is to provide young adult CEID alumni with valuable working experience in the educational field in support of the CEID program.

Volunteer Guidelines/FAQ

All volunteers at CEID are to adhere to our standard requirements as the wellbeing of our students is a main priority. Please review the following to learn some basic information and guidelines you will be expected to comply with if you become a volunteer.

More Information

Minimum Commitment

We require that our volunteers commit to volunteering at least one day a week for a minimum of 3 months. This allows scheduling to stay consistent and our students to become accustomed to extra staff if working in classrooms.

Preference for D/HH and Sign Language Fluency

We have a preference for volunteers who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing because we would love to expose our students and their families to more native signers. We are flexible to hearing volunteers who have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of sign language and/or deaf culture.

Dress Code

Clothing should be neat, clean, and appropriate for the nature of an educational setting.

Legal Requirements

All volunteers will be required to sign confidentiality and sexual harassment policy agreements. Anyone who is over 18 years of age will be required to complete a TB test and clear a criminal background check.

Demand for Volunteers

We have a higher demand for volunteers during Fall (August) and spring (January) terms. We are also flexible for volunteers more interested in office work, fundraising, event organization or facility work (gardening!).

At this time, we cannot offer paid compensation for volunteering or internships. If you are affiliated with an educational institute (high school or college), we can approve volunteer hours completed in exchange for course credit.
