DEAF COACHING
The Deaf Coaching Program at CEID brings a skilled adult who is Deaf to work with families with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) children to promote language development and a greater understanding of the D/HH perspective. Deaf Coaching supports families by providing information about growing up Deaf, using technology such as hearing aids, video phone services, safety devices such as flashing fire alarm systems, doorbells, and social norms in the Deaf Community. Access to a Deaf adult role model helps develop a healthy identity, fluency in signed language, and cultural awareness for a child and their family. Deaf Coaching sessions can be in a variety of settings, primarily the home, and also include visiting other natural environments in the community.
